CHILD CARE WORKERS - LONG BEACH AREA - ALL SHIFTS
1. Supervision, protection, and care of children individually and in groups at all times. 2. Assistance to each child in working with a group and in handling individual problems. 3. Administration of discipline and setting of limits for behavior. 4. Notation of the child?s progress, identification of the possible need for professional service; and communication of such findings to professional staff. 5. Supervises and participates in planned or directed activities. 6. Participates in group counseling, treatment planning sessions, and inservice training. 7. Helps implement resident treatment plans and directed activities. 8. Instructs youth in self maintenance and life skills. 9. Helps youth develop interpersonal and communication skills. 10. Within one?s area of competence, assists youth with homework and school assignments as needed. 11. Inventories resident clothes, household linen and other supplies as needed. 12. Responsible for the following household duties: food shopping, menu planning, assisting with food preparations, supervision of residents with food preparation, cooking food for residents, supervision of residents while learning to cook, supervision and performance of housekeeping chores. 13. May act as liaison to youth?s authorized representatives, community residents, school personnel, law enforcement personnel and others, as needed. 14. Transports youth to medical/dental appointments, for clothing and directed activities, as needed or required. 15. Responsible for youth?s clothing needs, including the supervision or performance of clothes washing. 16. Responsible for monitoring maintenance needs of physical plant and reporting any deficiencies to administration for correction; may perform various household maintenance functions, as required. 17. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Meets any of the requirements listed: have a Bachelor?s level degree form an accredited college or university as defined in the AFDC-Foster Care Rates Manual, Section 11-402.221(d)(3)-(4); or completed with a passing grade from an accredited or approved college or university as defined above, or 15 college semesters or equivalent quarter units in behavioral science, 9 units of which must be in courses related to children with behavioral problems which may be the result of abuse, neglect, or emotional trauma and one or more years of accumulated experience in child care in agency setting, which meets the qualifying experience as defined in the AFDC-Foster Care Rates Manual, Section 11-400(r)(A)-(C); or have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and two years accumulated experience as defined above. Have a knowledge of principles of child care supervision, nutrition, food preparation and storage and menu planning, housekeeping, sanitation and personal hygiene, and recognition of early signs of illness and the need for professional assistance, and availability of community resources.
