Coordinator, Child Care
NATURE OF WORK:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Child Care Services, coordinates care for children six (6) weeks to thirteen (13) years of age through the performance of supervisory, administrative, and classroom tasks in programs designed to stimulate the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of children. Work requires detailed knowledge of National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) appropriate practices, child development, center supervision, and the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in a wide range of matters. Supervision received is general in nature.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•1. Supervises day-to-day operations of center; monitors center's activities to include opening and closing of facilities, safety and sanitation, equipment, supplies, and materials.

•3. Assists in the implementation of curriculum and lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate for children enrolled in the Child Development Center; assures parent/teacher conferences are scheduled twice a year with each parent.
•4. Assigns areas of responsibility to center staff to assure maintenance of NAEYC accreditation and satisfaction of licensing standards; promotes staff communication and interactions that foster teamwork concept.
•5. Conducts enrollment process for children as directed; confers with parents as necessary to answer inquiries and concerns.
•6. Observes in daily classroom activities with children at least five (5) hours per week; directs children to promote independence, health and personal responsibility.
7. As assigned, keeps appropriate records and logs as required by the district, state, and federal agencies; collects data and prepares monthly United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and social service forms.
8. Maintains adequate quantities of materials; prepares supply and equipment orders as needed.
•9. Keeps Director apprised of situations that arise in the center that may affect the operation of the programs, such as, illness, accidents, disruptive behavior, and other similar occurrences; takes action as directed by the manager to resolve these situations.
10. Ensures compliance with all State of Wisconsin licensing requirements and NAEYC accreditation standards; prepares licensing applications as necessary; prepares and maintains all reports and documentation for NAEYC accreditation.
11. Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide positive experiences for student teachers assigned to the site.
12. Performs related duties as required or assigned for the effective operations of the Child Development Center.
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in Early Childhood Education; a minimum of nine (9) college credits in administration, leadership, management, technology, early childhood management or administration or some combination of these areas; a minimum of 24 college credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Special Education, and five (5) years of supervisory experience in an approved early child care setting; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to include the following:
1. Knowledge of rules, regulations, and practices related to group child care centers and as established by the State of Wisconsin and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
2. Knowledge of health and safety standards as they apply to children in child care centers.
3. Ability to assign, direct, and review the work of staff assigned to the child care center.
4. Ability to exercise alertness and judgment to detect and, if necessary, prevent situations of possible damage to life.
5. Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data, and prepare reports from such records.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with patience and respect through both oral and written means with staff, children, parents and the public.
7. Ability to understand and support the student teacher relationship.
8. Ability to relate to children and parents from diverse multi-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
9. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
10. Ability to lift and carry weights of forty (40) pounds fifty to sixty percent (50-60%) of the time.
11. Ability to work with persons from diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Physical exam with negative MANTOUX TB test (upon hire and every two (2) years thereafter)
2. Child Abuse and Neglect Training (required within 90 days of hire and every two (2) years thereafter)
3. Shaken Baby Syndrome Training (required within 90 days of hire)
