Description:OverviewUnder the supervision of the Program Coordinator, Health Educator (HE) participates in outreach and educational activities in accordance with Program protocols and contractual requirements. HE supports the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of HIV prevention programs that targets populations as specified in protocols. HE also supports other programs of Family Health Centers of San Diego's HIV Services Department. Responsibilities - Promotes and manifests the ideals and goals of the health center. Provides the best possible care and services to any and all clients, patients, or visitors, with respect and courtesy, without prejudice or discrimination; and to strive for maximum client satisfaction in those encountered or served at the health center or while in its service. - Interfaces and collaborates with all projects, programs and agency staff in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of specific projects, programs or activities to which assigned. - Pursues the completion and fulfillment of the goals and objectives of the specific projects, programs or activities in which assigned. - Collaborates with and support all program and department activities in general, completing specific tasks or activities as assigned or appropriate. - Conducts outreach, both street-based and through participating organizations, for the purpose of identifying members of the target population capable of benefiting from services. - Provision of individual and group level HIV risk reduction education based upon approved program curricula. - Assist at community events, such as open houses, health fairs, providing community education of relevant HIV issues and promotion of FHCSD services. - Responsible for reporting project and program activities to the corresponding supervisory or funding sources in the appropriate formats, including support of evaluation activities as needed. - Participates in and contribute to program and Department staff meetings and consultation sessions. - Assists in the determination of linguistic and cultural appropriateness and efficacy of Health Education materials, activities, methods, strategies, programs, marketing materials etc. Assists with the translation and/or revision of translated materials ass appropriate or indicated. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in a social science-related field preferred or three years related experience. - California Driver's License - Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred. - Experience providing health education programs in communities of color, with particular reference to Latino and African American communities. - Case management experience in an HIV prevention context highly desirable. - Must have knowledge of behavior modification theories. - Ability to work effectively with other organizations. - A comprehensive understanding of the health and social service systems in San Diego County is desired.
