Reports To: Child Development Center Manager
Job Summary: Responsible for teaching children within the Child Development Center, maintaining the overall health, safety and growth in the center while reflecting the Jeremiah mission, encompassing the values, vision and purpose of program. Responsibilities include: developing the intellectual, emotional and physical growth of children; ensuring the physical and emotional safety of the center; maintaining records as required by DHS and collaborating with parents and cross-team members to ensure growth of children.
A. Classroom Management 35% Weight
1. Create and maintain a classroom environment that stimulates and is conducive to learning.
2. Maintain accurate and complete files for children as required by DHS (emergency cards, field trip and conference forms, attendance, CACFP, accident/incident reports, etc.).
3. Implement, and post cross-cultural, developmentally appropriate High Scope curriculum for children.
4. Maintain order within classroom, storage areas, changing room, indoor and outdoor ... View Full Description play areas so they are attractive, sanitary, orderly, and in compliance with governing bodies.
5. Manage classroom budget for supplies and materials and report needs to Director.
6. Assess group needs and implement changes as needed and evaluate services.
7. Understand Rule 3 and State Licensing requirements to operate and maintain a childcare program.
B. Direct Service 50% Weight
1. Develop lesson plans through High Scope curriculum to ensure the progress of the entire group while accounting for the individual needs of each child with respect to typical child development.
2. Establish and implement positive, appropriate and consistent boundaries with children.
3. Develop and maintain positive, respectful relationships with parents, working with them to enhance their child’s education and development and providing resource referral for parental questions and concerns.
4. Supervise children in classroom and observe their behaviors.
5. Demonstrate positive interactions to parents through Family Goal Planning meetings and Parent-Teacher conferences.
6. Encourage and provide ongoing activities for parent involvement and offer feedback.
7. Communicate daily with parents regarding changes in their child’s development, behavior, and wellness through both verbal and written reports.
8. Develop growth plans when necessary and in collaboration with parent, co-worker and the Life Skills Coach as needed.
9. Administer child assessments using the ASQ tools and conduct parent-teacher conferences bi-annually.
10. Conduct special events within classroom, specifically annual graduations and transitions.
11. Collaborate with Family Services Team and participate in cross-team meetings and interdisciplinary work.
12. Enter pertinent information into the CTK database to ensure information and progress is tracked.
C. Leadership 10% Weight
1. Conduct education about Jeremiah Program and the special needs of children in the Child Center in the community, with staff and on committees as assigned.
2. Maintain compliance with and record DHS in-service hour requirements for teacher licensure.
3. Communicate positively and respectfully with staff and participants, greeting guests who arrive and depart daily.
4. Participate in staff meetings by providing input and engaging in the leadership of the meeting as least once annually.
5. Collaborate with staff in Family Services, Administration, the Child Development Center, and the Development Department to provide organizational leadership, continuity of program operations and engage in strategic planning.
6. Maintain professional conduct at all times and contribute to the inclusivity and safe learning environment of Jeremiah Program, in conjunction with the mission.
7. Provide and promote confidentiality at all times.
D. Other duties as assigned by the Child Development Center Director 5% Weight
Qualifications
• Meet and maintain MN DHS requirements for Rule 3 Teacher.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Ability to work in a team environment, interact with management, provide direct services in a family focused approach to improve service delivery and further the development of participants.
• Ability to problem solve, multi-task, complete work on time and work independently.
• Comprehensive knowledge of current child development practices.
• Evidence of continued professional development.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
